Quick-start guide for using VeritaDB to manage it infrastructure data.

Overview

Asset databases say what you own. CMDBs say what depends on what. VeritaDB does both, plus license expiry tracking, support contracts, and live health monitoring of services through ping/TCP/HTTP probes.

is_dependency_of ↔ is_dependent_on
is_monitored_by ↔ provides_monitoring_for
is_covered_by ↔ provides_coverage_for
is_hosted_on ↔ provides_hosting_for
is_license_for ↔ has_license
is_backed_up_to ↔ provides_backup_for
is_running_on ↔ provides_compute_for
is_gateway_for ↔ has_gateway

Each relationship has a forward and reverse label, plus past/present/future tenses derived from the start/end dates you set.

Common workflows

1. Add a new entity

Click + Add in the top bar.
Pick the entity type. The form auto-populates the right fields.
Fill in name + any required props. Hit Save (or Save & Add Another to keep adding).
The new entity shows up in the list, graph, and tree views immediately.

2. Link two entities

Open the entity you're linking from.
Click + Relationship in the right panel.
Pick a relationship type (forward label is suggested).
Type the target entity name and select from the autocomplete.
Set start/end dates if the relationship is time-bound. Save.

3. Find connections you didn't know existed

Switch to Graph view, click any entity, and follow the edges.
In List view use the search bar; results show every entity whose name or props match.
The Relationships tab on each entity shows everything connected, both directions.

4. Tense matters

If you set an endDate on a relationship, VeritaDB shows it in the past tense ("represented" instead of "represents"). Set a startDate in the future and it shows in the future tense. This means historical data and active data live side-by-side without conflict.

Tips

Status dots in every view show health/state at a glance — green = active, yellow = degraded, red = down/expired.
Star important entities to pin them to the top of the sidebar.
The Recovery Bin keeps deleted entities for 30 days — nothing is permanently lost without warning.
Save to Server (cloud icon in top bar) backs up your database to the sync server. Auto-save can be enabled in Settings.
